3/13 Winder, GA – Three Killed in Fire and Explosion in Home on Hidden Acres Rd

Winder, GA (March 13, 2023) – Three people were killed, and four others were injured in a fire and explosion that took place at a home in Winder on Saturday morning, March 11.

According to Barrow County officials, the fire broke out on Hidden Acres Road. Fire crews confirmed that a family brought a large propane tank inside their home to be used for cooking that is typically used for vehicles. There was a propane leak in the house while a fire was burning on a wood stove. This led to an explosion that led to a massive fire inside the home.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those who were inside the home. As fire crews were attempting to rescue and assist those inside, explosions were going off, and the home was starting to collapse. A total of three people, who have not yet been formally identified, were tragically pronounced dead at the scene. A total of four others inside the home sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized.

The area was blocked off for an extended period of time. Fire crews quickly worked to bring the fire under control.

The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the fire remains ongoing. Police will update with more information as it is available.

We would like to offer our warmest condolences to the families who have lost loved ones in this unexpected fire. We also hope that the injured parties receive a full recovery.
