Warrenton, GA (January 26, 2023) – On Wednesday morning, January 25, a woman was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident that took place in Warrenton.
According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened around 7:12 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-20 around the area of mile marker 160. A driver was parked on the shoulder in the area for reasons that are not yet known when their passenger got out of the vehicle. A tractor-trailer was approaching and struck the pedestrian forcefully before they were able to stop in time.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, who has since been identified as a 40-year-old woman from North Carolina, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Nobody else was hurt in the accident.
Eastbound lanes of traffic were blocked in the area for some time following the accident. This led to delays until the scene was cleared by police.
No further details have been released, but the investigation into the accident continues.
We offer our warmest condolences to the family and friends of the victim whose life was taken in this horrific collision.
