Vidalia, GA (December 28, 2022) – A deputy was injured in a car accident that took place at an intersection in Vidalia on Wednesday afternoon, December 28.

According to Toombs County Office deputies, the accident happened in the afternoon hours at the intersection of GA-280 and Arlington Drive. Police confirmed that a deputy named Wallace Thompson was stopped in a turning lane and waiting to enter into a parking lot. At the same time, a minivan driven by Laurie Griffin crossed two lanes of traffic and collided with the patrol deputy’s truck. Both vehicles sustained immense damage in the accident.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The deputy and the other driver were both injured and taken to Memorial Health Meadows Hospital. Their conditions are not yet known.

The roadway was blocked for an extended period of time in the area. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.

No further details have been released, but the investigation into the collision continues.
