Macon, GA (February 28, 2023) – Around 10 a.m. on Monday, February 27, a man was killed in a fatal motorcycle crash on a roadway in Macon. Police have since identified the victim of the accident.

According to Bibb County officials, the accident happened on Mercer University Drive around the area of Dixon Drive across from Advance Auto Parts. Police confirmed that a motorcyclist was traveling in the area in the center turning lane when his motorcycle was struck by a Honda Pilot due to reasons that are not entirely known. The driver of the Honda was making a left turn at the time of the collision. The motorcycle was left with extensive damages due to the collision.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The motorcyclist, who has since been identified as 56-year-old John William Vinson III, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene around 10:41 a.m. due to traumatic injuries. Nobody else was hurt as a result of the collision.

The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time as police worked to clear the scene. This led to delays until the scene was fully cleared.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
