Stonecrest, GA (January 3, 2023) – Two people were killed in a fatal car accident that took place on a highway in Stonecrest on the morning of Sunday, January 1.

According to DeKalb County Police, the accident happened around 3 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-20 around the area of Turner Hill Road. Police confirmed that the New Year’s Day accident took place when two vehicles collided on the highway due to unknown reasons. This caused flames to break out between the two, causing extensive damages to the involved vehicles.

Stonecrest fire crews and paramedics were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Two people, who have not yet been formally identified, were tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Multiple other unidentified victims were rushed to local hospitals for treatment of injuries but are expected to recover.

Due to the severity of the accident, the road was blocked in the area for some time. This caused extensive delays until the scene was fully cleared.

No further details have been released but the investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
