Stonecrest, GA (January 3, 2023) – On Thursday, December 29, a man was killed in a fatal head-on collision involving a hit-and-run driver in Stonecrest.

According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened on GA-212 in the westbound lanes. Police confirmed that a driver was traveling east in a Ford F-250 when they suddenly lost control of their vehicle, crossing over into westbound lanes. Several responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were called to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the Ford Fusion, identified as 19-year-old Daylan Norwood, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Nobody else was hurt in the accident.

Deputies since found the driver responsible for the accident, identified as Wayne Lee Owenby Jr. He has since been charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree, felony hit-and-run, and reckless driving.

The roadway was blocked in several lanes following the crash.

No further details have been released at this time. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.

We offer our warmest condolences to the family and friends of the victim whose life was taken prematurely in this accident.
