Fatal Pedestrian Crashes in South Carolina
Pedestrians have minimal protection in the case of a collision, making them more susceptible to being killed in an accident. In 2017, a pedestrian died in a traffic accident every 88 minutes on average, reaching a total of 5,977 deaths across the country. Pedestrian deaths continue to increase year after year, despite a countrywide drop in passenger car mortality rates. According to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, walkers are 1.5 times more likely to be killed in an accident.
If a loved one was killed in a car accident, you should file a wrongful death claim. A number of complicated rules govern these claims, including who can file a claim and when a wrongful death claim in South Carolina is appropriate. When the at-fault party was the direct cause of the victim’s death, a wrongful death lawsuit is an option. A representative of the deceased should file a claim and attempt to prove the defendant’s negligence with the help of a Spartanburg car accident lawyer.
