Sparks, GA (November 28, 2022) – Around 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, November 27, a deputy was injured in a pedestrian accident in Sparks during a traffic stop.
According to Sparks Police, the accident happened on I-75 around the area of mile marker 37 in the northbound lanes of traffic. A deputy with the Cook County Sheriff’s Office was performing a traffic stop in the area when he was suddenly struck by a vehicle that was headed northbound. The vehicle that struck the deputy was allegedly sideswiped by another vehicle before it ran off the side of the road and collided with the deputy and his patrol cruiser.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were immediately called to the scene to help those in need. The deputy was seriously injured and rushed to a Tallahassee hospital by medical helicopter. He was conscious at the time of transportation.
Due to the severity of the accident, a portion of the road was blocked for some time.
No further details have been released at this time. The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the accident remains ongoing.
