Savannah, GA (February 7, 2023) – Around 2:30 p.m. on the afternoon of Monday, February 6, a man was injured in a serious pedestrian accident. He has since been identified by police.

According to Savannah Police Department officials, the accident happened on Broughton Street around the area of Barnard Street. Police confirmed that a construction worker was walking in the area when he was suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle in the area. The driver remained at the scene following the accident.

Savannah paramedics and fire crews were dispatched to the scene to help those with injuries. The construction worker, who has since been identified as 30-year-old Aguilar Lopez, sustained injuries in the accident. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment of these serious injuries but is expected to recover. Nobody else was hurt in the accident.

The roadway was blocked in several lanes of traffic for some time following the accident.

No further details have been released. Police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the collision.
