Rome, GA (January 20, 2023) – On Thursday afternoon, January 19, a man was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident that took place in Rome.
According to Rome Police, the accident happened at 2:40 p.m. on the Second Avenue Bridge. Police confirmed that 66-year-old David Floyd was headed north on the roadway in a GMC Sierra when his vehicle left the road and struck a pedestrian due to reasons that are not yet known. The pedestrian was on the bridge and was thrown off onto the sidewalk as a result. The GMC then clipped a white Toyota Sienna and then collided with multiple trees.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, who has since been identified as 35-year-old Jacob Pepper, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Floyd and a party inside the Sienna were rushed to the hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.
