Rome, GA (November 16, 2022) – Around 10 a.m. on the morning of Monday, November 14, a tanker truck crash took the life of one person in Rome.
According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened on Turner McCall Boulevard around the area of Cooper Drive. An SUV was traveling in the area when it was involved in a head-on collision with a tanker truck due to reasons that are not yet known. The tanker truck was hauling corn syrup and caught on fire immediately following the crash. The crash also brought down utility lines in the area due to the severity of the accident.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. She has since been identified as 70-year-old Rebecca Madden. Nobody else sustained injuries in the collision.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for an extended period of time. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the accident continues.
