Rome, GA (January 17, 2023) – A man was killed in a fatal train accident that took place in Rome on the afternoon of Sunday, January 15.
According to Rome Police, the accident happened before 3 p.m. on the train tracks in Rome in an unknown area. Police confirmed that a train was traveling in the area when the operator saw a pedestrian walking along the tracks, ready to cross. The operator blew the train horn but was unable to stop in time, striking the pedestrian.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, who has since been identified as 61-year-old Craig Rogers, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Nobody else was hurt as a result of the collision.
The area was blocked off for an extended period of time following the crash, which led to delays in service.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
