Monroe, GA – Police Vehicle Involved in Injury Crash at Spring St & Hammond Dr
Monroe, GA (March 14, 2022) – Injuries were reported in a car accident that took place at an intersection in Monroe on Saturday, March 12.
According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened at the intersection of Spring Street and Hammond Drive. Police confirmed that a 16-year-old driver with her 71-year-old passenger were traveling north on Hammond in a Volkswagen. They attempted to make a left turn onto Spring Street. At the same time, their vehicle was struck by a police vehicle. The Volkswagen was struck in the left side.
Paramedics, fire crews, and numerous other local responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The teen and the 71-year-old were both transported to the hospital with injuries but they are expected to be okay. The police officer did not sustain injuries.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the intersection for some time. Charges are pending, though they have not yet been released.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
