Marietta, GA (February 22, 2023) – A man was killed in a fatal car accident that took place on a highway in Marietta on the morning of Wednesday, February 22.
According to Marietta Police Department officials, the accident happened in the northbound lanes of I-75 around the area of the Bells Ferry Road overpass. Police claim that 43-year-old Blanca Manriquez-Rodriguez of Tennessee was traveling north on the highway in a 2016 Toyota Sienna minivan. She suddenly lost control of her vehicle due to unknown reasons, causing it to strike a guardrail and flip over. The vehicle then went down an embankment and ejected the front-seat passenger.
Marietta responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The passenger, identified as 45-year-old Edgar Perez, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. The driver was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment of severe injuries.
The roadway was blocked in one or more lanes for some time following the accident. Police worked to clear the scene quickly so traffic could resume as normal.
