
Macon, GA (February 15, 2023) – On Wednesday, February 15, a deputy was injured in a pedestrian accident that took place during a traffic stop in Macon.
According to Bibb County officials, the incident took place at an unknown time on Bloomfield Road. A deputy was attempting to stop 28-year-old ShaMarques Watkins due to a vehicle that was missing a taillight. When the officer walked up to the vehicle, Watkins started to drive away from the scene, pulling the deputy along with him. The deputy was thrown off, and Watkins continued onward to Rocky Creek Road, eventually reaching speeds of 111 miles per hour until the chase ended.
Several crews responded to the scene to assist the officer, including paramedics. The deputy sustained injuries and was treated at the scene by EMS crews. He is expected to make a full recovery. Nobody else was hurt as a result of the accident.
The roadway was blocked off for some time following the chase. Watkins was arrested on several charges, though they are not yet known.
