Lula, GA (March 8, 2023) – Two men were killed in a mobile home fire that took place on a major roadway in Lula on the night of Friday, March 3.
According to Banks County officials, the fire broke out around 8:30 p.m. at 4664 GA-51 in a mobile home in the area. Police confirmed that fire crews were immediately dispatched to the scene after calls, where they found that a mobile home was 50% involved when they arrived. Several people were at home when the fire broke out, but some were able to make it out. The survivors told fire crews that two people were still inside the home, causing fire crews to make an interior attack to help the individuals.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. One man was found in a bedroom, and he was unsuccessfully resuscitated at the scene. A second man was found in the room where the fire started. Both men, who have not yet been formally identified, were tragically pronounced dead at the scene. A firefighter also sustained shoulder injuries and heat-related injuries during the fire and was rushed to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.
The area was blocked off for an extended period of time after the fire. The scene was quickly cleared after the fire was brought under control.
The investigation into the circumstances leading up to the fire continues.
We offer our warmest condolences to the family and friends of the victims who have lost their lives in this fire. We also hope that the injured firefighter receives a full recovery.
