Lithonia, GA (March 8, 2023) – Around 1:15 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday, March 8, a woman was killed in a fatal fire in Lithonia.
According to DeKalb County officials, the accident happened on Huntington Circle. Fire crews were called to the scene after they received calls that there was smoke coming out of a home’s garage. When they arrived at the scene, they were approached by residents of the home, who told them that not everybody made it out alive. Fire crews were also told that the fire started in the garage.
Several responders, including local Lithonia paramedics, were dispatched to the scene. A woman was found inside the garage by fire crews once they got the fire under control. The woman was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to extensive burns. Four other people who were home at the time of the fire were able to escape without harm.
The area was blocked off for an extended period of time after the fire. Fire crews took a period of time to get the fire under control.
No further details have been released. Police continue their investigation into the circumstances leading up to the fire.
