Hephzibah, GA (December 27, 2022) – A man was struck and killed in a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident in Hephzibah on Wednesday, December 21.

According to Richmond County officials, the accident happened around 2 a.m. at 3600 Deans Bridge Road. Police confirmed that 50-year-old William Bell was walking in the area when he was struck by a passenger vehicle. He was then struck by a second vehicle, which fled the scene of the accident. The second vehicle dragged his body into a parking lot, where it left him until the morning. 

Several Hephzibah responders were dispatched to the scene to help the pedestrian. However, he was found the next morning and tragically pronounced deceased due to traumatic injuries. 

Police later found the driver responsible for dragging Bell’s body after he was struck. She has since been identified as Jasmane Stephenson. Stephenson has since been charged with felony homicide by vehicle and fleeing the scene of an accident. 

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
