
Hartsfield, GA (January 27, 2023) – At 1:26 p.m. on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 25, a man was killed in a fatal car accident on a highway in Hartsfield.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened on GA-111. A driver was on a John Deere tractor while a small black SUV pulled up behind it. The driver was traveling westbound and did not stop in time, slamming into the back of the tractor. The tractor had its hazard lights on and was pulling hay-moving equipment at the time. Police said that there was rain at the time of the collision.
Several local responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the tractor, who has since been identified as 33-year-old Christopher Simmons, was seriously injured in the accident. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene after life-saving measures were taken.
The roadway was blocked in several lanes for an extended period of time. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the circumstances of the collision remains ongoing at this time.
