Gainesville, GA (February 22, 2023) – At 11:50 p.m. on the night of Tuesday, February 21, one person was hurt in a car accident at a Gainesville intersection.

According to Hall County officials, the accident happened at the intersection of Southers Road and Greencrest Road. Police confirmed that an adult male driver was speeding in the area when he suddenly lost control of his vehicle around a curve. The vehicle went off the roadway, collided with a tree, and rotated into a ditch off the side of the road. The vehicle was left with extensive damage and caught fire after landing in the ditch.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other Gainesville responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. A female passenger was left inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by fire crews. The victim, identified as a 26-year-old female, was seriously injured in the collision. She was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. The male driver fled the scene on foot.

A portion of the road was blocked in the area for some time. Police did not say if they located the driver responsible for the accident.

Police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the collision at this time.
