Flowery Branch, GA (March 10, 2023) – On Tuesday evening, March 7, a serious motorcycle accident took place at an intersection in Flowery Branch.
According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened in the evening hours around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Atlanta Highway and Gaines Ferry Road. Police confirmed that 45-year-old Zulma Vitale was driving a Dodge Durango headed south while a 25-year-old local man was headed north on a motorcycle. Vitale failed to yield at the intersection while making a left turn. This caused the two vehicles to collide with one another, leading to extensive damage to the motorcycle. Vitale fled the scene of the accident without stopping.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The motorcyclist was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
The roadway was blocked at the intersection for some time. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible so traffic could resume in the area.
Vitale was later found by police. She has since received charges for failing to stop at an accident, failing to yield, and failing to yield while turning left.
No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
Our thoughts go out to the motorcyclist at this time with hopes of a full recovery.
