Doerun, GA (December 22, 2022) – Around 7:48 a.m. on Wednesday morning, December 21, a child sustained burn injuries in a house fire in Doerun.
According to local officials, the fire broke out at an unknown home in Doerun. Fire crews received a call early in the morning when a neighbor noticed that smoke was pouring out of a home. Fire crews worked to put out the fire, which they believe was started from a space heater.
The neighbor who alerted fire crews helped get the family out who were trapped inside the house. An 8-year-old who was trapped inside the home initially sustained second and third-degree burns. However, police confirmed that he is expected to survive after going through multiple surgeries. It is not believed that anybody else was hurt in the fire.
The area was blocked off for an extended period of time following the fire. Fire crews quickly brought it under control.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the circumstances of the fire continues.
We offer our warmest thoughts and sympathies to the child injured in this incident with hopes of a speedy recovery.
Fires and Explosions in Georgia
House fires have been increasing in Georgia and beyond over recent years. On average, approximately 2,620 lives are taken in U.S. house fires, with approximately 500 of these accounting for children. The truth is, most fires can be prevented but continue to cause serious injuries and take lives each year due to the recklessness of others. Two of the most common injuries that stem from fires include smoke inhalation and burn injuries. If you have been seriously injured in a fire, you may wonder what options you have. Speaking with an attorney can be one of the best ways to move forward.
