1/16 Cornelia, GA – Thomas Spangler Killed in Apartment Fire on Main St

Cornelia, GA (January 16, 2023) – A man was killed in a fatal apartment fire that occurred on Monday morning, January 16, in Cornelia.

According to local officials, the incident happened around 10 a.m. in an apartment at 837 Main Street. Police confirmed that the landlord of the property had not seen the resident living within for several days. When he arrived at the apartment, he discovered that there had been a fire and there was both smoke and fire damage to the outside of the home. The landlord used a master key to gain entrance to the home and found that there was a fire at some point in the past few days.

Paramedics and several other local responders were called to the scene. When fire crews gained entrance, they found that there was a male victim inside the home. The party, identified as 57-year-old Thomas Spangler, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries.

The area was blocked off for an extended period of time following the crash. This led to delays until the scene was cleared.

No further details have been released but the investigation into the circumstances leading up to the fire continues.

We offer our warmest sympathies to the family and friends of the victim whose life was taken in this horrific accident.
