Columbus, GA (February 27, 2023) – Around noon on Sunday, February 26, a woman was killed in a fatal car accident that happened in Columbus.
According to Muscogee County officials, the accident happened on the Manchester Expressway around the area of the Warm Springs Connector. Police confirmed that two vehicles were traveling on the highway in the area when they became involved in a collision due to reasons that are not entirely known. The involved vehicles sustained severe damage as a result of the crash.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. One of the involved victims, identified as 20-year-old Jaimie Welch, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. It is not known if anyone else was hurt as a result of the collision.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for some time until police were able to clear the scene.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision remains ongoing. Police will update with new information as it becomes available.
