Columbus, GA (February 21, 2023) – On Monday night, February 20, a man was killed in a fatal workplace accident that took place in Columbus.

According to Muscogee County officials, the accident happened late at night in an unknown area of Columbus. Police confirmed that an adult male was working on power lines in the area when he was suddenly electrocuted due to reasons that are not yet known. Police did not say if any other workers were with him at the time.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The worker, who has since been identified as 26-year-old Cody Lange, was severely injured. He was tragically pronounced dead at the scene of the accident around 12:17 a.m.

The area was blocked off for an extended period of time following the accident until police were able to clear the scene.

No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident remains ongoing.
