In the first half of 2018, compared to the first half of 2020, there were 17% more pedestrian deaths in the United States. South Carolina saw noticeably worse statistics. During the same six-month period in the state in 2018, there were 153 pedestrian fatalities, which is a 100.6 percent increase or 79 additional fatalities over the same period in 2020. The worst part is that 2020 was already South Carolina’s deadliest year for pedestrians in over ten years.
