1/21 Clarkesville, GA – Serious Car Crash Injures Several at GA-15 & Talmadge Dr

Clarkesville, GA (November 21, 2022) – Injuries stemmed from a serious car accident that took place at an intersection in Clarkesville on Sunday evening, November 20.

According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened at 5:47 p.m. at the intersection of GA-15 and Talmadge Drive. Police confirmed that an SUV driver was traveling in the area when they allegedly pulled in front of a pickup truck that was towing a camper along behind it. The driver of the Nissan SUV, identified as 77-year-old Garnett Pitts, failed to yield while making the turn and caused the two vehicles to collide head-on with each other. The pickup truck went off the side of the road and into a ditch as a result of the crash.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the pickup truck, identified as 39-year-old Dustin McElreath, was trapped inside his pickup truck and had to be extricated. He was airlifted to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. Pitts, as well as 40-year-old Lisa McElreath (a passenger), were both injured as well and taken to local hospitals for treatment.

The roadway was blocked in the area of the intersection for a period of time. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible so traffic could return to normal.

Police confirmed that Pitts was charged with failing to yield while making a left turn.

The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues. Police will update when more information becomes available.

We offer our warmest thoughts and prayers to the parties who have been hurt in this collision.
