Brunswick, GA – One Killed in Fatal Truck Accident on I-95

Brunswick, GA (September 11, 2022) – One person was killed in a fatal truck accident that took place on a highway in Brunswick on Friday night, September 9.

According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened around 9:46 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-95 around the area of mile marker 39. Police confirmed that three separate crashes took place due to an initial crash. A Honda Accord initially rear-ended a Toyota Tacoma, causing the Tacoma to travel off the side of the road. A Honda CRV then struck debris caused by the initial crash, causing it to become disabled. No injuries stemmed from these first two crashes.

Police then said that a semi-truck stopped in the middle lane due to the disabled Accord. This caused a second tractor-trailer to slam into the rear of the stopped truck. The driver of the second tractor-trailer was ejected.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders in Brunswick were called to the scene. The driver in the second semi-truck, who has not yet been formally identified, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the stopped semi-truck sustained injuries and was hospitalized but is expected to be okay.

Due to the severity of the accident, all southbound lanes of traffic were blocked for some time. Police reopened the roadway around 1:08 a.m.

No further details have been released at this time but the investigation remains ongoing.

We offer our warmest condolences to the family and friends of the victim at this time. We also hope that the injured victim receives a speedy recovery.
