Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in South Carolina

South Carolina ranked second in the country in terms of the number of pedestrian fatalities per 100,000 people in 2020. That year, the state recorded a total of 187 pedestrian fatalities or approximately 18% of all road fatalities. The number of pedestrian fatalities increased by 4% from 2019 to 2020 across the country, showing that fatal pedestrian accidents are affecting more and more people.
According to South Carolina law, wrongful death cases may be filed when a negligent or reckless act results in death, or if the deceased would have been entitled to compensation for their injuries if they had survived the accident. The loss of a loved one cannot be compensated for or replaced by money, but a wrongful death claim can still help to alleviate some of the burdens faced by the surviving family members.
A monetary settlement can provide much-needed financial support for family members who have lost a breadwinner or homemaker or who are struggling to move on after losing an important person in their life due to someone else’s negligence, as well as help pay for medical expenses, and funeral and burial costs. You need an accomplished lawyer in order to make sure justice is served.
