Augusta, GA (January 12, 2023) – Around 12:20 p.m. on the afternoon of Thursday, January 12, one person was hurt in an Augusta pedestrian crash.
According to Richmond County officials, the accident happened on Tobacco Road around the area of Windsor Springs Road and the local Circle K. A pedestrian was walking in front of the local Circle K when they were suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle due to reasons that are not entirely known. The driver who struck the pedestrian allegedly remained on the scene.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other Augusta responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, who has not yet been formally identified, sustained injuries in the accident. They were taken to a local hospital for treatment, though their current condition is not yet known.
The roadway was blocked entirely in the area for an extended period of time, and there was a large police presence. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.
No further details have been released, but the investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the pedestrian injured in this accident with hopes of a speedy recovery.

This is due to the fact that pedestrians have no protection from harm in the event of an accident involving any type of vehicle. Georgia sees more pedestrian accidents than many other states in the U.S. In 2021, in fact, it is estimated that approximately 322 pedestrians were killed in fatal Georgia accidents, and many others were severely injured.
