Augusta, GA (February 2, 2023) – A man lost his life in a fatal truck accident that took place at an Augusta intersection on the morning of Wednesday, February 1. According to Richmond County officials, the accident happened around 9:25 a.m. at the intersection of Deans Bridge Road and Willis Foreman Road, just across the street from the Gordon Lakes Golf Course. Police confirmed that a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle were traveling in the area when they were involved in a collision at the intersection due to reasons that are not entirely known.

Both vehicles sustained damage as a result of the collision. Augusta paramedics and fire crews were dispatched to the scene. The driver of the passenger vehicle, who has since been identified as 81-year-old Lewis Melson, was rushed to Augusta University Medical Center with traumatic injuries. He was tragically pronounced dead while there around 10:23 a.m.

The roadway was blocked in several lanes of traffic at the intersection until police were able to fully clear the scene. No further details have been released, but the investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
