
Augusta, GA (February 20, 2023) – Around 7:50 p.m. on the evening of Friday, February 17, a man was killed in a fatal car accident on a highway in Augusta.
According to Richmond County officials, the accident happened on Gordon Highway around the area of mile marker 2.5. Police confirmed that a driver was traveling in the area when they suddenly lost control of their vehicle due to unknown reasons, causing a severe collision. The vehicle was badly damaged in the accident.
Several local responders, including Augusta paramedics and fire crews, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The passenger inside the vehicle, identified as 58-year-old Charlie Brown of Thomson, was rushed to the hospital with traumatic injuries. He was tragically pronounced dead at the hospital around 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 18.
The roadway was blocked in several lanes in the area of the accident until police were able to clear the scene.
