Augusta, GA (January 10, 2023) – A pedestrian lost their life in a fatal accident that took place on a major roadway in Augusta on the night of January 6.
According to Richmond County officials, the accident happened around 7:30 p.m. at 3300 Mike Padgett Highway. Police confirmed that a pedestrian was walking in the area when she was suddenly struck by a passenger vehicle due to reasons that are not entirely known. The driver of the vehicle allegedly remained at the scene after the accident.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other local responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, who has since been identified as 35-year-old April Harrod, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries. Nobody else was hurt in the collision.
Due to the severity of the crash, a large portion of the road was blocked in the area for some time.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
