Atlanta, GA (January 28, 2023) – A number of victims were hurt on Saturday, January 28, in a vehicle collision on a busy local interstate.

A handful of injuries were reportedly sustained by victims in a collision involving two or three automobiles on an Atlanta-area stretch of I-285.

Officers from the Atlanta Police Department reported the event later in the evening. Initial indications are that the two-car crash happened near the Chamblee Tucker Road exit from I-285 southbound at 10:20 p.m. Early investigations also indicate that two, or possibly three, drivers were traveling between various right-hand traffic lanes at the time of the crash.

The APD arrived on the scene right away, along with several EMS and fire rescue units. The type and extent of the passengers’ injuries were still unknown, despite the fact that at least one of those victims was transported to an area hospital.

According to Atlanta authorities, the investigation into the crash continues at this time.

We hope for the full recovery of all victims injured in this crash.

Auto Accidents & Injuries in Georgia

Every day, serious traffic accidents occur on Georgia roadways. Despite the majority of accidents being mere fender benders, a staggering proportion of victims suffer serious life-threatening injuries in Peach State accidents.

Moreover, per the Georgia Department of Transportation, motor vehicle accidents are the primary cause of injury-related fatalities and the second largest cause of visits to emergency rooms in our state.

In 2020 alone, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) recorded a total of just under 332,000 car accidents. Of those crashes, close to 1,590 were fatal, and at least 120,000 extra automobile accidents resulted in injuries.

Despite statewide attempts to achieve zero vehicle fatalities in Georgia, these data trends are certainly heading in the wrong direction. For 2021, the forecast is deteriorating. According to the National Safety Council, Georgia saw at least 910 motor vehicle deaths in the first half of 2021, a nearly 20% increase from the year before. Authorities say the rise was mostly caused by three careless driving behaviors: driving while distracted, driving under the influence (DUI), and speeding.
