
Athens, GA (March 16, 2023) – One person lost their life in a head-on collision that took place at an Athens intersection on Wednesday night, March 15.
According to Athens-Clarke County Police, the accident happened at 9:27 p.m. at the intersection of Lexington Road and Oak Drive. Police confirmed that two vehicles were traveling in the area when one of the vehicles went into the other lane of traffic. The Malubu and Nissan Rogue collided head-on with one another.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene. Police confirmed that the driver of the Malibu, identified as 67-year-old Jesse Garner, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Nissan, identified as a 23-year-old male, was injured in the accident. Four others inside the vehicle were also hospitalized with injuries.
The roadway was blocked at the intersection for a period of time. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
