Athens, GA (March 16, 2023) – One person was injured in a car accident at an intersection in Athens on the morning of Wednesday, March 15.

According to the University of Georgia Police Department, the accident happened before 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of College Station Road and Lake Herrick Drive. Police confirmed that two vehicles were traveling in the area when they entered the intersection at the same time, causing them to collide with each other. The involved vehicles were badly damaged as a result of the collision.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. One of the drivers involved in the collision sustained injuries in the accident. The victim was taken to a local hospital by ambulance, though their current condition is not yet known.

Due to the severity of the accident, the road was blocked at the intersection for a period of time. Police worked to clear the scene so traffic could resume as normal.

The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues.
