South Carolina Injury-Causing Car Accidents
Recent statistics from South Carolina indicate that car accidents may happen at any moment to anybody. In 2015, one in every 18 licensed drivers in South Carolina was involved in an accident or about 6% of all drivers. The South Carolina Department of Public Safety has collated this information (SCDPS). Car accident-related injuries and fatalities have increased nationally and in South Carolina during the last several years.
Statistics from the SCDPS and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration show that the number of traffic-related deaths in the United States rose from 32,744 in 2014 to 35,092 in 2015, a 7% rise that was the biggest percentage increase in 50 years (NHTSA). The number of individuals killed in car accidents in South Carolina rose from 823 in 2000 to 979 in 2010.
Between 2015 and 2016, the number of people injured in car accidents in South Carolina rose by around 11 percent, from 53,029 to 58,608. This is compared to a 4 percent rise in injuries throughout the US, from 2.34 million to 2.44 million.
