York, SC – Melvin Poteat Dies in Motorcycle Crash on US-321
York, SC (May 30, 2022) – Local officials have identified the motorcyclist who was killed following a vehicle collision in Lancaster on Sunday morning, May 29.
It was later reported that 59-year-old Melvin Poteat of Gastonia was riding a motorcycle on US-321 when he was hit by a pickup truck driven by 75-year-old Evelyn Bowlin of Smyrna. Bowlin reportedly crossed the centerline of the highway and crashed head-on with the oncoming motorcyclist.
Poteat sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. No additional information has been made public at this time.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
