York County, SC – Firefighter David Campbell Killed in Truck Crash on Highway 49

York County, SC (December 27, 2022) – A firefighter has died following a traffic accident that took place on Friday morning while on his way to work. On December 23, the South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a traffic accident on Highway 49.

Preliminary reports indicate that a Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling south on Highway 49. At the same time, a Chevrolet pickup truck was traveling in the same direction. For reasons unknown, both vehicles struck a tree that fell on the south side of the road. The tractor-trailer jackknifed and struck the Chevrolet at around 7 a.m.

The driver of the Chevrolet, identified as 36-year-old firefighter David Campbell, was fatally injured. He died while at the scene of the crash.

At this time, the incident remains under investigation.

We offer our sympathies to the family of David Campbell at this time.

Fatal Truck Accidents in South Carolina

Fatal accidents take the lives of hundreds of people in South Carolina each year. Unfortunately, commercial vehicles are often involved in these accidents. Accidents involving trucks and commercial vehicles are more likely to result in severe injuries for those involved.

The size of the vehicles, the force of impact, and the speed at which they are traveling are all factors that contribute to the severity of injuries sustained in a truck accident.

Trucks are much larger and heavier than passenger vehicles, so when they collide with smaller cars, the results can be devastating. The weight and momentum of a truck can cause it to crush smaller vehicles, making it difficult for occupants to escape or survive the collision. In addition, truck accidents often occur at high speeds, which increases the risk of serious injuries or fatalities.
