Sumter, SC – Kenneth Atkinson Fatally injured in House Fire on Dew St
Sumter, SC (July 16, 2022) – A fire incident reported in Sumter County claimed one man’s life on Sunday afternoon. At around 2 p.m., on July 10, emergency crews and Sumter responded to the scene of the fire incident on Dew Street.
According to reports, a fire broke out inside a home located on Dew Street, just outside the city limits of Sumter, during the afternoon hours. Fire officials from floor stations and additional 25 firefighters responded to the scene to help battle the blaze, which spread to about one-quarter of the home by the time authorities arrived.
Firefighters went to work quickly on battling the blaze and entering inside the structure.
One person inside the home suffered from significant injuries. The Sumter County coroner’s office pronounced the victim, 75-year-old Kenneth Atkinson, deceased at the scene.
Firefighters remained at the scene for an extended period as they worked to take control of the fire. No other injuries were reported.
The incident remains under investigation at this time.
