Spartanburg, SC (December 30, 2021) – The identity of the moped rider killed in a collision in Spartanburg on Wednesday morning, December 29, has been released.
Local sources revealed that 33-year-old Brenden Chaz Hawkins of Woodruff was riding a moped on SC-101 when he was hit by a tractor-trailer near Greenpond Road. The deadly accident took place at around 6:30 a.m., and Hawkins was pronounced dead at 6:44 a.m. just a few minutes later. Both the semi and the moped were headed southbound on the highway when the moped was rear-ended. The impact caused Hawkins to be ejected from the bike.
