Savannah, GA – Edith Fields Killed in Pedestrian Accident on Staley Ave

Savannah, GA (July 18, 2022) – On Sunday, July 17, a woman was killed in a pedestrian accident involving a tire that flew off of a vehicle in Savannah.

The Savannah Police Department responded to the accident in the afternoon hours on Staley Avenue near the area of Montgomery Street. A driver was traveling in the area when one of their front tires suddenly flew off of their vehicle due to reasons that are not yet known. The tire struck a pedestrian who was walking down the sidewalk nearby. Police confirmed that the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

Paramedics and several other local Savannah responders were called to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian, who has since been identified as 67-year-old Edith Fields, was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries. She was tragically pronounced dead while there. Nobody else was injured in the collision.

Due to the severity of the collision, most of the road was blocked in the area near the intersection. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.

No further details have been released. Police continue their investigation into the accident at this time.

Our thoughts and sympathies go out to the parties injured in this accident with hopes of a full recovery.
