Car Accidents in South Carolina

Each year, tens of thousands of people in South Carolina are negatively affected by vehicle collisions that take place in our state. Unfortunately, many of these accidents are preventable. There are various factors that contribute to vehicle collisions in our state. Some of the leading causes include:

  • Drunk driving: Every year, hundreds of people are killed, and thousands more are injured in South Carolina as a result of drunk driving. This is 100% preventable. If you’re going to drink, don’t get behind the wheel. Period.
  • Speeding: Speed is a factor in nearly one-third of all traffic fatalities in South Carolina.
  • Distracted driving: Distractions like texting, talking on the phone, or eating can take your attention off the road and lead to an accident.
  • Reckless driving: weaving between lanes of travel, tailgating, and even switching lanes in a reckless manner are all risky behaviors that can result in an accident.
  • Weather conditions: Bad weather can make even the best driver’s job more difficult. We see many accidents take place in our state as a result of icy road conditions, heavy rain, and other storm conditions.
