Rome, GA (January 6, 2023) – On Wednesday afternoon, January 4, a woman was killed in a fatal car accident that took place at a Rome intersection. Police have since identified the victim involved in the accident.

According to Floyd County officials, the accident happened around 2 p.m. at the intersection of Martha Berry Highway and Selman Road. Police confirmed that a southbound Nissan Altima was driving in the area when it was suddenly struck by an unknown vehicle. The Nissan then slammed into a Nissan Pathfinder that was headed north on the highway.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The driver of the Altima, who has since been identified as 37-year-old Hilda Santizo-Perez, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries. A 3-year-old child inside that same vehicle was removed from the vehicle and rushed to the hospital. One other person involved in the accident, identified as 34-year-old Charcia Baldwin, was also hospitalized.

The roadway was blocked in the area of the accident for a period of time. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.

No further details have been released but the investigation into the accident remains ongoing.
