Marietta, GA (December 8, 2022) – A man was killed in a fatal pedestrian accident that took place at an intersection in Marietta on the evening of Monday, December 5.
According to Marietta Police, the accident happened around 6:46 p.m. at the intersection of Austell Road and Pat Mell Road. Police confirmed that a 39-year-old Marietta man was traveling north in his Ford F-250 in the left lane. Suddenly, he struck a 32-year-old Marietta man who was walking across the street. The driver of the Ford remained at the scene of the crash.
Several responders, including paramedics and fire crews, were called to the scene to help those in need. The pedestrian was rushed to WellStar Kennestone Hospital with traumatic injuries. He was tragically pronounced dead while there. The driver of the Ford, as well as a juvenile passenger, was not hurt in the crash. The pedestrian has since been identified as Derek Johnson.
The roadway was blocked in several lanes of traffic for an extended period of time. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.
No further details have been released, but the investigation into the collision continues.
