Lavonia, GA – Johnny Freeman Killed in Fatal Crash on Stone Bridge Rd
Lavonia, GA (November 3, 2022) – A fatal car accident took place at an intersection in Lavonia on Wednesday afternoon, November 2, that led to vehicular homicide charges.
According to Franklin County officials, the accident happened at 3:19 p.m. at the intersection of Stone Bridge Road and Grady School Road. Police confirmed that Robby McDaniel was driving a Ford F-250 headed east on Grady School when he ran through the stop sign at the intersection. This caused him to slam into a northbound Cadillac Deville that was also headed through the intersection. Both vehicles traveled off the side of the road and the Cadillac overturned.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other Lavonia responders were dispatched to the scene. Police confirmed that 78-year-old Johnny Freeman was ejected from his vehicle. He sustained severe trauma and was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. A 16-year-old passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized. McDaniel was also injured and airlifted to the hospital for treatment.
The intersection was blocked in the area for several hours as police worked to clear the scene. McDaniel was charged with failing to stop at a stop sign and second-degree vehicular homicide.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the accident continues.
We would like to offer our warmest condolences to the family and friends of the victim whose life was lost in this accident. We also hope that the injured victims will receive a speedy recovery.
