Laurens, SC – James Smoak Killed in Pickup Truck Wreck on I-26 near MM 47
Laurens, SC (July 17, 2022) – A traffic wreck reported just west of Clinton in Laurens County has claimed one man’s life. At approximately 9:45 p.m., on July 15, emergency crews were sent to the site of a crash that occurred on Interstate 26.
Reports provided by South Carolina Highway Patrol show that a 58-year-old man was driving a pickup truck westbound on Interstate 26 when he became involved in a collision near mile marker 47. The vehicle went off the right side of the roadway and then overcorrected. The vehicle then reentered the roadway and crashed into a cable medium barrier off the left side of the road.
The driver, James Smoak, was fatally injured in the crash. The victim, who was from North Carolina, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Troopers are currently investigating the accident.
