Deadly DUI Accidents in South Carolina
Drunk driving is a national problem, but in South Carolina, it is particularly visible. Between 2003 and 2012, 3,870 people across the state were killed in DUI-related collisions. In the United States, drunk drivers kill more than 30 people every day, with an intoxicated driver killing someone every 50 minutes on average. Drunk driving accidents claim the lives of over 10,000 people each year, accounting for roughly a quarter of all road deaths in 2016.
If a loved one was killed in an accident, you should file a wrongful death claim. A number of complicated rules govern these claims, including who can file a claim and when a wrongful death claim in South Carolina is appropriate. When the at-fault party was the direct cause of the victim’s death, a wrongful death lawsuit is an option. A representative of the deceased should file a claim and attempt to prove the defendant’s negligence with the help of a Johns Island personal accident lawyer.
