Hoschton, GA (January 17, 2023) – Two people sustained serious injuries in a dump truck accident that took place on a Hoschton highway on Tuesday morning, January 17.

According to Georgia State Patrol officials, the accident happened in the northbound lanes of I-85 around the area of GA-53. Police confirmed that a driver was traveling north on the highway in a Mercedes C Class when it was involved in a collision with a Western Star Dump Truck due to reasons that are not fully known. The Mercedes then traveled off the road and collided with a concrete wall while the dump truck overturned. Both vehicles had extensive damage as a result.

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. Both of the involved drivers sustained injuries in the accident. Their conditions are not known, though they were both hospitalized.

The driver of the Mercedes was charged with driving under the influence, as well as failing to maintain their lane. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible so traffic could return to normal.
