Deadly Auto Accidents in South Carolina

Greenville, SC - Driver Dies in Multi-Vehicle Crash at US-276 & Burgess Ave

South Carolina has one of the highest rates of traffic deaths in the country, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Residents of the state drove nearly 19% more miles between 2000 and 2016 than they had in the previous decade. In 2018, one out of every 18 drivers in the state was involved in a car accident, according to statistics.

If a loved one was killed in a car accident, you may want to consider filing a wrongful death claim. In South Carolina, you must understand who can file a claim and when a wrongful death claim is appropriate. A wrongful death lawsuit is appropriate under the wrongful death statute when the defendant — the at-fault party — was the direct cause of the decedent’s death. The claim should be filed by the decedent’s representative and is an attempt to prove the defendant’s negligence.
